National Music has been distributing and marketing quality musical instruments in Australia for nearly 40 years. Based in Brisbane, our company has a proud record of product innovation and exceptional service.

We proudly distribute world class brands such as Tanglewood, Elixir, Rotosound, LR Baggs, Tech 21, Proel, Luna, Aroma Tuners, G7th Capos, Kirlin Cables and much more.  We also represent the highly acclaimed Hidersine and Vivo Stringed instruments as well as the iconic Thomastik-Infeld strings.

At National Music, music is in our blood. Every member of our company is a musician – from our talented sales/marketing/logistics team at head office; our hard-working warehousing team and guitar techs; to our highly experienced and respected sales force on the road. Music is who we are and what we do.

We see ourselves as important partners with our Music Retailer Network across Australia; providing expert support, marketing, on-line promotion, and full representation of the quality products we distribute.

Meet the National Music Team

Ross Dillon – CEO/Owner
Ross began his career working in music retail in 1975 and was promoted from the retail floor to store management. He worked for Australian retail icons like Brashs, Palings and BB Whitehouse. After spending some time in the medical field, Ross decided to invest in the then “Greenfield” mobile phone industry. The business grew in line with the Telecoms boom of the 1990’s to 12 stores before merging with another retail chain. After selling his interest in the Mobile Phone business, Ross returned to his roots by investing in National Music in 2003.

Louisa Buchanan – Managing Director
Louisa Buchanan has enjoyed a career in the music industry for over 30 years. Formally trained in music (with a B.Mus. from the University of Queensland), Louisa started her career in music retail, selling pianos and managing a store and music school. She then moved to Sydney to join the team at Alfred Publishing Australia, specialising in the education market, as their Head of Sales and as a touring Piano Publications Clinician. She later headed up the Finance and Operations Teams and in 2003 was promoted to General Manager. In 2006 Louisa joined the team at National Music as Business Manager and later as CFO. She was promoted to Managing Director in 2020.

Darren Miller - Sales Director
Darren has over 35 years of experience in the Music Industry and began his career as a musical instrument salesperson, working for one of Australia’s largest music retailers. With so much business and product knowledge under his belt, Darren then turned his hand to music wholesale. Darren is highly respected within the music industry and has gained extensive “on the road” experience over the ensuing years, beginning as a Sales Representative, before taking on the role of State Manager. In July 2004, Darren joined National Music in the senior role of National Sales Manager. Darren is a passionate, gigging musician and his broad knowledge of music retail and product development is truly an asset to the company.

The Sales Force
Australia is unique when it comes to the challenges facing a sales force. It is geographically as large as mainland USA, with many iconic music stores situated both in our cities and our regional and remote areas. Even in this digital online world, at National Music we believe that face to face contact with our retailers is of the utmost importance. Music is tactile and we believe that there is nothing better than holding a gorgeous guitar, seeing the brilliant timbers, playing the strings, and hearing the sound. That is why, our team of dedicated, passionate, and experienced Territory Managers travel the country (literally through rain, hail and shine), promoting our great line-up of products and providing the tools for our Retailer Network to support and grow their businesses.

The Head Office Team
At National Music, we think we have one of the best Head Office teams in Australia! Our talented team specialise in sales support, product development, logistics, web and graphic design and marketing. They are all musicians and collectively have a wealth of experience in both music retail and wholesale, are here to support the products we sell to our Music Retailer Network. We also have an amazing warehousing team (again, all Muso’s) dedicated to despatching your orders with care and as efficiently as possible. Our experienced team of in-house guitar techs make sure our instruments are ready to play as soon as they leave our warehouse. Plus, our orchestral instruments are set-up by the most respected specialist luthiers in Brisbane.

With many years of experience in the music industry, our team at National Music are musicians first and truly have music running through our veins. We support the products we sell with passion and care and believe that music makes a difference in everyone’s lives.
